Peru. 8 Reales, 1809-JP (Lima). Eliz-74a; WR-11; KM-106.1. Ferdinand VII, 1808-1833. Large uniformed imaginary bust of Ferdinand right, with laurel wreath, wearing Order of Golden Fleece. Reverse: Crowned Bourbon arms, flanked by bannered pillars. Crisp portrait. Satiny luster; light smokey toning. NGC graded MS-61.

Rulers all over Europe adopted the laurel wreath in imitation of the ancient Roman rulers. This was supposed to garner respect. Symbolism was of great importance considering the low literacy rates of the times.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,500.

Realized $2,990
