Lot 1140

1797 S-134 R4. VG-8. A couple points sharper but very lightly cleaned and nicely retoned glossy chocolate brown. No roughness or verdigris, only trivial contact marks scattered over the obverse. Great eye appeal for the grade. Would qualify for a VG10 grade if the left side of the reverse was struck up as well as the rest of the coin. M-LDS, Breen state IV late. The date and legends are bold except for UNITED S, which are weak but readable as they flow into the rim. Appears to be a case of non-parallel die faces. Much beading shows around the edge, which is typical for planchets used on this variety.
Estimated Value $100 - 150.
Ex William R. T. Smith 1974-Thomas Wolf.
