Lot 113

1788 New Jersey Maris 50-f Rarity-3 VG10. Head Left type. Glossy medium brown with darker chocolate brown toning in the fields and protected areas. The two-tone appearance is quite attractive, and the contrast emphasizes the designs. The obverse would grade a bit higher while the reverse is a bit weaker, which is typical since the reverse die was heavily worn during previous marriages prior to this mating. No marks or notable defects other than a depression in the top of the shield caused by insufficient planchet metal to fill both the horse's neck and opposing shield. The date is bold and the legends are complete. An attractive lower grade example of the popular Head Left type. Listed on pages 70-1 in the "Redbook." Weight 146.1 grains.
Estimated Value $300-UP.
Ex Tom Rinaldo.
