Massenet, Jules -- Two Autograph Letters Signed. (1842-1912) French composer best known for his operas. "Méditation" a symphonic intermezzo written for solo violin and orchestra from his opera Thaïs, has to be one of the lovliest pieces ever written. Two autograph letters signed "J. Massenet," one in 1880, in purple ink and the other in 1907, in brown ink, both to unidentified recipients. In both letters he blames his travels for not having received/answered their letters. The 1880 letter mentions a piano concerto. The 1907 letter mentions a project, says he is leaving for the south of France, and wishes he could stay close to his "good chimney." Normal folds and a couple of penciled notations, else fine. Estimate Value $200 - UP
