Lot 111

1847 N-13 R4 PCGS graded AU58+. Frosty medium steel brown and olive. Nicely struck with radial lines in all the stars, but there are a few small low spots on both sides (caused by grease or debris on the dies). The only notable mark is a very thin planchet fissure at the lower right point of star 3 (as struck). M-LDS, die state c, with strong die cracks on the reverse but no cud break above the R in AMERICA. The folks at PCGS appear to have aimed low on this one. Our grade is MS60, tied for CC#10 in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 5 finer: 1 in 62, 3 in 64, 1 in 65+. Estimated Value $600 - UP
Ex Doug Bird, 1997 EAC Sale, lot 343-Colonel Steven K. Ellsworth Collection (EAC Sale lot ticket included).
