Lot 1076

[Spoons]. Collection of United States Silver Commemorative Spoons. A good-sized collection comprised of 34 different spoons, the bulk of which is sterling silver. Spoons are teaspoon or demi-tasse size, some "salt" size. Most pieces feature ornate pictorial handles (a few with pictorial bowls also, or engraved with city names) proudly displaying the attributes, notable sites or events from various states. Numerous states are represented -- ranging from Alaska to Utah. Some pieces are accented with enameling or gilding. Most pieces date to the 1950s or 60s, a few later, many earlier. A fascinating group of American "popular" history, worth a closer inspection -- who can live without a Niagara Falls spoon, not to mention a hand engraved view of New Jersey's Asbury Park on the 4th of July, 1900! A neat starter collection for those with the interest.
Estimated Value $200 - 300.
