Magnificent Luristan Bronze Horse Bit Cheek Panels in the Form of Elegant and Graceful Horses 8th-7th Century B.C. A fine example of Luristan artistry can be seen in these cheek panels of a horse bit. Luristan work had the tendency to elongate the necks and bodies which allowed for exceptionally graceful details and curves. While missing the actual bit (the rod that is inside the animal's mouth) the two cheek panels offered dramatically exhibit the craftsmanship of the time. There are subtle etched details on the horses, notably a starburst in a circle on the hindquarters and speckling and braiding along the mane. The reverse of the panels are mostly hollow. Fine examples with only a split to one tail and tip of one ear both original from when unearthed. Fine deep russet patina. Estimated Value $3,000 - 5,000

Realized $1,500
