Lot 102

1847 N-5 R3+ 84 Repunched PCGS graded MS63 Brown. Lustrous bluish steel and light olive brown with 10% of the mint red remaining visible on both sides. No spots or stains and it looks choice, but there are some microscopic abrasions on the cheek. The best identifying mark is a faint planchet lamination on the outer edge of the rim over the M in AMERICA. E-MDS, die state a late. The fields show fine radial die flowlines but the reverse is uncracked. The repunching on the 8 & 4 is clear, strongest on the 4. Our grade is AU58, CC#8 in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; none finer (only 4 of the variety graded at PCGS). Estimated Value $700 - UP
