Lot 1016

1802, 2 over 1. Centered Overdate. BD-2, Rarity-4+. NGC graded MS-62. A nice full strike and lightly toned with frosty mint luster and a dusting of russet color. Sharply struck throughout and well preserved, with Liberty's face and cheek smooth and attractive. The open fields are free of detracting marks or adjustments that often are seen on these early half eagles. The reverse shows two small patches of die rust from improper storage at the Mint, one just above the left facing wing tip, the other between TA of STATES and these are diagnostic to this variety and seen on the later coins struck from these dies that had developed a few small patches of rust in steamy old Philadelphia. Pop 25; 32 finer at NGC. (PCGS # 8083) Estimated Value $12,500 - UP

Realized $16,800
