Lot 1008

1799. B-16; BB-158. PCGS graded AU-58. Nice and frosty with a touch of light tone about the stars. Splendid quality and eye appeal for the connoiseur of fantastic quality early United States coins. The toning is classic old antique silver, ranging through variances of gold and grey with dazzling luster beneath. Examination of the fields finds little to fault, as there are no deep or distracting marks from brief circulation. Outstanding definition as this coin barely circulated, thus the ample full strike is fully present to examine all the finer nuances of the die work in all their glory. The eye appeal and surface quality here is simply incredible. So few Draped Bust silver dollars exist at this grade level that each of these is like a work of numismatic art, carefully preserved since the time of issue and preserved in all their splendor. 1799 was of course such an important year in our history, wiht George Washington passing away in late December of that year, bringing a close to initial era of our history. This 1799 will always serve as an historic marker for that important era. This example is the photo on the PCGS pop report. Pop 2; 1 in 62 (PCGS # 40050) Estimated Value $10,000 - UP
