Percival, Captain John. Manuscript letter signed ("Percival") by Naval Captain John Percival, Commanding the U. S. S. Constitution, Honolulu, 1845, Nov. 30, 10 x 8 in., 1p. Informing Thomas Holdup Stevens, U.S. Naval Store Keeper at Honolulu, that he has ordered a replacement for an anchor and chain the ship had lost in a storm off Oahu on Oct. 28 and asking Stevens to draw a bill on the Navy Department for $350 and to forward the information to Secretary of the Navy George Bancroft. Stevens would distinguish himself in the Civil War and eventually attain the rank of Rear-Admiral.
