Lot 100

1847 N-3 R3 Repunched Date PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Lustrous light olive and bluish steel brown with underlying very faded mint red covering about 20% of both sides. This cent has excellent eye appeal and it looks choice, but a glass reveals several small, dull nicks on the E in CENT and a thin nick in the field off the lower lip. LDS, die state e, with three small but clearly defined rim cud breaks on the reverse (Newcomb's old #33). The repunching on the date is gone. Our grade is MS60. Tied for CC#13 of the variety but CC#3 of the dozen or so examples known with the three rim cuds. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 8; 2 finer in 65. Estimated Value $1,250 - UP
