Loomis regarding a monetary grant to Samuel Ruggles in recognition of missionary service in the Sandwich Islands from 1820 to 1834. An extremely rare letter regarding one of most important Hawaiian missionaries and his relationship with the organization which sent him to Hawaii. Rev. A.L. Loomis was apparently a descendent of Elisha Loomis (1799-1836), a missionary in the first company to Hawaii and responsible for the first printing in the Hawaiian language.
