Yuri Gagarin. First Man In Space. Outstanding Signed Postcard With Commemorative Stamp and Cancel Signed in Red by Gagarin (1934-1968) was a Soviet Air Force pilot and Cosmonaut who became the first human to fly into space, by every measure a major milestone. His capsule, Vostok 1 completed one orbit around the Earth on April 12, 1961. He only flew this one mission, and it was only 108 minutes total. But it was a triumph for the Soviet space program and he became a national hero of the Soviet Union, the Eastern Bloc, as well as a worldwide celebrity. He died in a jet plane crash before having the opportunity to fly into space again. Offered is superb, late 1961 postcard portrait of Gagarin (5 x 4½") in uniform postmarked Dec. 4th 1962 with his commemorative stamp. Gagarin has autographed boldly in red fountain pen in the light blue area of his portrait. Given how thin Soviet postcards were at the time, this piece shows only very modest evidence of handling and minor soft corners. Otherwise, a true find. LOA by Zarelli Space Authentication. Estimated Value $600 - UP
