Lot 98

1942 Mercury Dime. PCGS graded Proof 67. Rainbow toning around the borders. A rollicking toned gem with lovely pastels over top quality surface preservation. Nicely struck, though not fully so-still, since Mercury dimes often had to be repolished during the striking of Proofs. Each time this was done, some of the tiny design elements disappeared from the die. Notice the broken leaves that are no longer connected to their supporting stem on the reverse, and seen on most Proof dimes from 1936 to 1942. Yet, the strike of the present coin easily rivals that of the plate coin in the Lange reference (PCGS # 5077) .
Estimated Value $450 - 500.
