Taylor, Zachary -- Bold Signature and Rank (1784-1850) 12th President of the United States. He served in the War of 1812, the Black Hawk War, the Second Seminole War, and the Mexican-American War. During the latter war, Taylor became a national hero after leading U.S. troops to victory at the critical battles of Monterey and Buena Vista. Exceptionally bold signature with sentiment and rank: "Very respectfully Sir / Your obt Servt / Z. Taylor Majr Genl / U.S. Army," written on a 2 x 4" piece of light blue paper affixed to a 3¼ x 6¼" sheet, no place, no date (c. 1846-48). Extremely fine. Estimate $1,500 - 2,000
