Masterpiece Thread Decorated Jar. Byzantine Period, 5-6th Century C.E. 11.2 cm. Blue-green with emerald-like iridescence. The neck threads on this fabulous vessel was formed with one thick continuous loop containing 11 separately applied handles (one missing probably since antiquity). The rim is slightly flared and the punted base nice and deep. Stands firmly on its own. Superb condition and free from noticeable restoration. Cf. Ancient Glass the the Neward Museum, Susan H.
