Kamehameha III. - Royal Land Grant No. 239 (1814-54) King of Hawaii (1825-54); brother of Liholiho, who ruled as Kamehameha II. Royal document half in English and half in Hawaiian with substantial inclusions in Hawaiian, 13½ x 16¼ in., 1850, March 26, 4 pp. Transaction with Peter J. Gulick relative to land at Kamananui, Waialua, Oahu, Hawaii. Gaspar Sylva document collection. Signed by the following: Kamehameha III; Peter J. Gulick (Peter Johnson Gulick was missionary and father to Orramel H. Gulick and John Thomas Gulick and uncle to Charles T. Gulick); and Keoni Ana (John Young II) as Minister of the Interior. Keoni Ana was the son of John Young and chiefess Kaonaeha. He succeeded Kekauluoki as Prime Minister, 1845-1854, and also served at various times as governor of Maui, Minister of the Interior and of the Supreme Court. Includes royal stamp and red wax royal seal. Minor age toning.
