1793 Flowing Hair Cent. Chain reverse, "AMERICA" in legend. . S-2 R4+. Good-6. Sharpness VG10 but there is a fine pinscratch from the tip of the nose down through the chin and five more on the reverse around and inside the chain. The surfaces are mostly smooth but there are a few thin planchet striations on the obverse plus several shallow pitmarks around LIBERTY. Many of these pits have traces of greenish verdigris in the bottom, but their impact on the eye appeal is minimal. Rather glossy chocolate brown delicately woodgrained with medium brown toning on the obverse. The date is weak but remains visible, and the legends are clear. MDS, Breen state II.
