Napoleonic Wars -- Seven British Naval Commanders at Trafalgar. Group of seven British Naval officers who commanded ships at the Battle of Trafalgar Oct. 21, 1805, fought by the British Royal Navy, under the command of Admiral Lord Nelson, against the French and Spanish Navies during the War of the Third Coalition. The seven British commanders in this lot, naming the ships they commanded at Trafalgar, are: Baron Cuthbert Collingwood (Vice Adm. of the Lee Squadron in HMS Royal Sovereign--1787 PPDS); Sir Thomas Masterman Hardy (Com. of HMS Victory -- ANS as Flag Captain, c. 1811-13); Edward Codrington (Com. of HMS Orion -- 1810 Doc. Endorsing requisition of beer); Thomas Francis Freemantle (Com. of HMS Neptune -- ALS); Eliad Harvey (Com of HMS Temeraire -- 1821 ALS in 3rd person); Richard King (Com. of HMS Achilles -- 1798 LS on Naval matters); and Thomas Dundas (Com. of HMS Naiad -- cut signature).
