Rare Vintage Original B&W NASA Photo Issued April 9, 1967 of the Severely Damaged Lower Forward Section of Apollo 1 Test. Apollo 1 (initially designated AS-204) was originally scheduled to launch on February 21, 1967. But in one of the worst tragedies for NASA at the time a cabin fire during a launch rehearsal test at Cape Kennedy, Launch Complex 34 on January 27 killed all three crew members—Command Pilot Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom, Senior Pilot Ed White, and Pilot Roger B. Chaffee. After extensive investigations, on April 9, 1967 NASA released this photo with press information on verso, laying out the report's findings but still claiming causes probable but not conclusive. We have only rarely offered this vintage original photo in auction. Estimated Value $250 - UP
