Another Case with an Elegant Equestrian Motif. Russia, c. 1900-1915. The case is a narrow rectangle, with rounded edges and corners, and spring button catch. An apparently famous statue group is reproduced on the lid. Classically inspired, a nude youth, in a striding pose left, restrains the rearing horse at his side. A wild animal's pelt serves as the horse's riding blanket. The pair stand on a low plinth. Hallmarks are: key-shaped incuse with classical female head right, and 875. Maker's marks, DMYu5, also within key-shaped incuse; and MET on spring. The button catch is set with deep red glass, suggesting a fine ruby. Size: 4-1/4 x 3-3/8 x 3/4." A little rubbing in the lid's fields, otherwise exceptionally handsome, with attractive toning. A classic!
Estimated Value $425 - 525.
