Lot 818

1797 S-140 R1 VF35. Slightly sharper but there are a couple fine planchet voids on the bust tip (as struck) and a thin vertical nick near the dentils behind the head. Glossy chocolate and steel brown with a small splash of reddish chocolate toning over IT in UNITED and in the leaves under MERI. Frosty luster shows in many of the protected areas. LDS, Breen state IX, with significant die failure at the bust tip that weakens the 97 plus die cracks in the obverse fields. Noyes graded VF35 net VF30 and tied for CC#13, his photo #36437.
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.
Ex Tom Reynolds-Jack Wadlington.
