Lot 773

Russian Lacquer: Four Hand Painted and Lacquered, Wood Russian Eggs and One Russian Plaque. Four beautiful wooden eggs exquisitely hand painted and lacquered. The eggs range from 4 x 2½ x 2½" to 5¼ x 3½ x 3½". The favorite by far is of St. Basil's Cathedral in Red Square complete with brass onion shaped dome affixed to top. Clearly the most famous cathedral in all of Russia, the artist has captured it well, signed at lower right and dated 1992. The two medium sized eggs are both painted by a different artist with one a portrait of a lady in all her finery, the other a country scene of women picking fruit, both initialed on verso. The smallest egg is a musician from folktale. Finally a very colorful modern Russian decoupage plaque of Red Square Consistent with all of these pieces is the architecture so associated with Russia and that is their distinctive onion shaped domes as seen in every one of these pieces. Some light scuffs, a chip in the black lacquer of base on egg but otherwise these display beautifully and in very fine condition. Brass stand included. Estimated Value $400 - UP
