1857-C $1 Gold Indian. NGC graded AU-55. The first year of issue from the Charlotte mint of the type 3 design. Series specialists estimate that not many more than 100 or so survive from the original low mintage of only 13,280, with about a dozen above EF-45. This coin exhibits a decent strike and is untoned. Pop 24 with 41 finer.
