Lincoln, Abraham -- Autograph Note Signed Six Weeks Before His Assassination (1809-1865) 16th President of the United States (1861 until his assassination in April 1865). Autograph note signed "A. Lincoln" as President, 3 x 3", no place, March 1, 1865. Six weeks before he was assassinated, Lincoln wrote, "It is said that sentence in this case was fine & imprisonment until paid, & that the fine has been fully paid. If so, the disability is removed." Lincoln wrote on the verso of part of a letter which would have been a petition to dismiss the case to which he refers. Paper is toned, with faint file notes at top and bottom; note needs to be straightened in the frame. Boldly penned and signed. Matted with a large color image of Lincoln and framed to an overall size of 23¼ x 15". Estimate $3,500 - 4,500
