Lot 718

1851 N-35 R5+ NGC graded AU55. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate blending to medium chocolate brown in protected areas. The surfaces are smooth but there is a speck of crud under star 12 and a larger splash of darker olive crud on the leaves under OF. A dull circular nick or planchet flake between stars 12 & 13 can help identify this cent. EDS. The fine die lines in the fields on the reverse are present and there are no visible rim breaks. This is the discovery coin for the die variety, that being accomplished when Jules Reiver owned the coin. Our grade is VF30 net VF25+ and tied for CC#12 in the Grellman census. The attribution and Reiver provenance are noted on the NGC label. Pop 1; none finer at NGC for the variety. Estimate Value $300 - UP
