Complete 14" Heteromorphic Ammonite, Volga River, Russia. 14" Heteromorphic ammonite Audoliceras is 120 million years old from the Volga River Ulianovsk Region of Russia and much larger than most found of this species which only measure 7-8" The ammonite has been expertly prepared in its original matrix and also displays iridescent mother-of-pearl surfaces on its ribbed shell. While most ammonite have a spiral shell this heteromorphic ammonite started out with a usual curl and then became uncoiled as it grew larger. It is unknown why this occurred and what type of lifestyle these unusual uncoiled ammonites had in the late Jurassic ocean. This huge museum quality ammonite was purchased by the former owner for $7000 in the late 1990's at the Tucson Fossil Show. Estimate Value $1,800 - UP
