One Complete Ancient Sea Scorpion and Three Partials, Herkimer County, New York. Eurypterids or Sea Scorpions are an extinct group of arthropods. Related to horseshoe crabs and trilobites, they periodically shed their shells. Possessing a head, a segmented body and a tail, the majority of Eurypterids displayed a large pair of paddle-like appendages for locomotion in water. The largest complete specimen measures 9 inches long with three other partials on a 16 X 12 inch dark gray matrix. These stunning sea scorpions are 420 million years old from the Fiddler's Green Formation of Herkimer County, New York. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP
