Kennedy, John F. -- TLS With Appreciation for Sympathy on the Loss of Their Son (1917-1963) 35th President of the United States (1961-Nov. 22, 1963, when he was assassinated). Typed letter signed "John Kennedy" as President, one page, on White House letterhead, 8¼ x 6½", Washington, Aug. 14, 1963. To Congressman Charles A. Vanik of Ohio: "Dear Charles [Congressman Vanik is marked through]: Mrs. Kennedy and I were deeply moved by your thoughtful remembrance on the loss of our son. Your kind expression of sympathy meant a great deal to us." Matted with a photo of JFK, Jackie, Caroline, and John John, and a Kennedy silver dollar and framed to an overall size of 17¼ x 21½". Fine condition.

Patrick Bouvier Kennedy was born five and a half weeks early, by caesarean section, on August 7, 1963, and died 39 hours later, on August 9, 1963. His death, which was caused by hyaline membrane disease (now called infant respiratory distress syndrome), spurred innovations in the treatment of premature infants, creating the pediatric subspecialty neonatology. Three and a half months after Patrick's death, John Kennedy would be assassinated in Dallas. Estimate $3,000 - 5,000
