Roman Gladiatorial Dagger Hilt with "Eagle Head Pommel", c. 1st-2nd Century A.D. Rare short sword hilt used by Gladiators in the Colosseum when they fought to the death for the pleasure of ancient Romans. Bronze; 5 x 4" (13cm long); with a projecting bust of "Minera" at base of eagle head pommel, wearing a high crested helmet and aegis, eagle incised with feather detail, a rectangular sectioned empty socket would easily accomodate a double edge blade of the period making a complete sword. Excellent condition.
