Lot 677

1887. NGC graded MS-67 Prooflike. Wonderful rainbow toning on both sides which is primarily gold and russet, with tinges of rich blues and oranges intermixed. Only 5,000 pieces struck for circulation as the countless private coin hoards set back during the Civil War came flooding back into circulation once the economic issues of that war settled out, mostly during the 1880s. Hence mintages on some coins declined dramatically for a decade or so as new coins simply were not needed in the channels of commerce. This stunning jewel represents one of the finest seen from this modest issue, with incredible eye appeal and gorgeous surfaces. Pop 2; tied for the finest MSPL examples graded at both services. Estimated Value $8,000 - 8,500
