Johnson, Andrew -- Document Signed Three Days After Lincoln's Assassination. 1808-1875) 17th President of the United States (April 15, 1865 to 1869). Partly-printed document signed "Andrew Johnson" three days after being sworn in as President, one page, vellum,19 x 15½", Washington, April 18, 1865. Appointing William O. McDonald surgeon of volunteers. Countersigned by Secretary of War Edwin Stanton. Blue War Department seal is intact at upper left. Manuscript portion is very light but legible. Part of Johnson's first name is light, but the "A-n" is darker, as is "Johnson." Matted and framed to an overall size of 19 x 15½ 28¼ x 24". A very attractive document, signed nine days after General Robert E. Lee's surrender. Estimate $1,500 - 2,000
