Lot of Two Books of Jewish Interest. The first: Volume 8 of the Hebrew Encyclopedia, "Ibn-Ezra, Moisei - Judaism", St. Petersburg, ca. 1900; iiii, 969 pp., with maps and illustrations in color and black & white, including a large foldout from an antique illustration showing the persecution of the Jews in Madrid during the Spanish Inquisition. Hardbound, the cover in buckram, imitating maroon morocco, with raised ornament, arabesques, and gilt designs, somewhat intermediate to Celtic and Byzantine designs. A few early pages spotted from candle drippings, otherwise copy sound, and very good or better in condition. The second appears to be a History of the Jewish People in Palestine, from antiquity to the present. Text in Hebrew, printed under the auspices of the Association Simon Dubnow, in Paris, 1939; 637 pp., with numerous black & white illustrations, maps, along with graphs in color. Issued in wraps, but hardbound in dark green leatherette. Some tears, along with chipped and tattered pages at the rear. Nevertheless interesting, and undoubtedly a rare survival from only just pre-Nazi-occupied France. Both quarto size. Lot of 2 books.
