Late 19th Century, Exceptional Sterling Silver and 14K Yellow Gold Gentleman's Cigarette Case. Outstanding gentleman's antique sterling silver and 14K yellow gold cigarette case from the R. Blackinton Co. well known for their exceptionally high end The company was founded by Walter Ballou and Roswell Blackinton at North Attleboro MA in 1862 and continued as R. Blackinton & Co. until 1967. The original B pierced by a sword trademark was used until 1900 which is the hallmark found on this case. Marked sterling silver and 14K gold, the craftsmanship of this piece is superb, with gold inlay band completely surrounding case, with gilt wash on inside of case, the spring loaded sterling brace inside to hold the cigarettes perfect, and the case itself nicely sized at 3 x 5¼". Case is mongrammed JHS along the 14K yellow gold band, normal handling and weighs 170 grams. Estimate Value $500 - UP
