Lot 653
1787 Fugio Cent Newman 11-X Rarity-4 MS60. Lustrous light olive and dark bluish steel. Traces of mellowed red show in protected areas on the reverse. Possibly lightly cleaned long ago. No spots or contact marks. The only defect is an incomplete strike on the lower right of the obverse and opposing upper right of the reverse. The softness of strike in those places is typical and is associated with the intermediate die state, Newman state D. Otherwise the strike is very nice. The planchet is quite nice for a Fugio Cent showing only a few microscopic planchet flakes here and there but no voids. Struck slightly off center to K-4. Weight 146.7 grains.
