1773 Virginia Halfpenny. Period after "GEORGIVS". . Br-180. PCGS graded MS-64 Brown. Lustrous original mint red fading to bluish steel brown, at least two-thirds of the red remaining. No stains or contact marks, just some microscopic specks of darker toning from gem status. Nicely struck on a flawless planchet. Variety with 8 harpstrings and fine die rust showing on both sides. Most likely from the famous Cohen Hoard consisting of a mint state keg that was dispersed slowly from the late 1800's to 1929, when the remnants were sold at auction.
