Hopkinson, Francis -- Revolutionary War-date Thirty Day Sight Note (1737-91) Signer of the Declaration of Independence from New Jersey; known as the designer of the first official American flag. Partly-printed document signed "F. Hopkinson" as Treasurer of Loans, one page, 4 x 8¼", Nov. 22, 1779. Countersigned by Thomas Smith as Commissioner of the Continental Loan-Office of Pennsylvania. The document is a thirty day sight note: "At Thirty Days Sight of this Fourth Bill, First, Second and Third not paid, pay to Samuel Mifflin or Order, Sixty Dollars, in Three Hundred Livres Tournois, for Interest due on Money borrowed by the United States." Some fading to printed portion but manuscript portion, including Hopkinson's signature, is bold. Attractively matted and framed to 11½ x 15¾". Estimate $600 - 750
