Monroe, Marilyn. Famous Photograph of Marilyn Signed in red ink across the skirt of her white dress, 10x8", no place, no date. This is one of numerous shots ("MM144" is written in the plate at the lower edge) taken during The Seven Year Itch, Billy Wilder's 1955 sex farce. The skirt-blowing effect was achieved by having Marilyn stand on a subway grating. Marilyn enjoyed doing the scene but Joe DiMaggio, her husband at the time, was outraged. This is a silver bromide print, which is toned with copper; there is a copper-colored demarcation around Marilyn's figure and part of her skirt. The red signature stands out very nicely against the white dress.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 3,000.

Realized $3,335
