Lot 57

[Bonnie and Clyde]. On verso are printed addresses and telephone numbers of 30 offices of the Department of Investigation (which later became the FBI). Creased at centerfold, which is not visible in the frame. Overall size is 13½ x 13½". Notorious American partners in crime.

Original "Wanted" Poster for Bonnie and Clyde. An original printed "Wanted" poster issued by the "Division of Investigation U.S. Department of Justice," Washington, DC, May 21, 1934. The poster is 8 x 8", and is profusely detailed, with a photograph of each of the criminals at center, flanked by two columns providing descriptions, aliases, the names of relatives, and a brief criminal record of each. Detailed information about the two outlaws is printed below, and reads, in part:

"Clyde Champion Barrow and Bonnie Parker constantly travel together and extreme caution must be exercised by arresting officers as they are wanted in connection with assault and murder of officers… "

The crime they are charged with is "violation of the National Motor Vehicle Theft Act." Just two days after the date of this poster, the two were ambushed and killed by Texas Rangers near Arcadia, Louisiana, putting an end to a four-year spree of robbery and murder that became the stuff of popular legend. Very Fine.
Estimated Value $250 - 350.

Realized $431
