Hom, Georg. Portrait of a Young Woman. Possibly painted on thin ivory sheet, c. 1900, the delicate likeness rendered in a stipple technique, which lends an airiness and feeling of light to the young woman's gaze. Signed at left, "HOM." Mounted as a gilt metal oval pendant, in its original leather (worn but sound) and velvet "traveling case/frame."

Georg Hom was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1838. He studied at the Staedelisch Institute under Jakob Becker (1853-1864), and was active in Frankfurt and from 1876 in Berlin. G.Hom was very popular as portraitist and genre painter, and was especially noted for his paintings with candlelight effects. He regularly exhibited at annual shows in Frankfurt, Berlin, and Munich.
Estimated Value $400 - 600.
