Lot 555

1798 S-172 R2 Style II Hair, Small 8. NGC graded AU-58. Glossy dark chocolate brown with frosty lighter steel brown in protected areas on both sides. Choice and very attractive, essentially flawless. Locating an identifying mark presents a significant challenge, and a tiny pinprick in the field over the middle of the bust will have to suffice. Rare TDS, Breen state VI, with a cud break at ICA in addition to the earlier narrow rim cud at TY and to the right. Called AU50 and CC#5 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF45 and tied for CC#3, his photo #23962. Our grade is AU50. Finest known of the terminal die state. The attribution is noted on the NGC label. NGC population 2; none finer.
Estimated Value $4,000-UP.
