Lot 54

1821 N-2 R1 PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Lustrous mint red fading to light steel brown and olive with about 80% of the obverse covered with fading mint color and at least a third of the reverse showing mint red. The only notable marks are a pair of small nicks right of the nostril and a smaller one on the upper lip. A good identifying mark would be a tiny planchet flake inside the C in AMERICA. Sharply struck EDS. The diagonal die line from the bust tip is clear and there is no trace of crumbling in the dentils on the obverse. Fine multiple profiles show on most of the stars and on the upper edge of the coronet tip (a result of die bounce). A superior example of the date. Graded MS62 and CC#4 in the Bland census. Our grade is MS63+. A great cent that comes with a provenance that has been traced back more than a century. The attribution and Beckwith-Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; the only MS RB example graded at both services. PCGS #36710. Estimate Value $20,000 - UP
