James I (1566-1625) King of England and Scotland. Manuscript document signed ("James R"), 1p, 11 x 6¼ in., 23 Feb. 1617. To Sir Henry Montagu, Lord Chief Justice of the King's Bench and first Earl of Manchester; he would become a trusted advisor to James' son, Charles I. The document mentions Windsor Castle, an Act of Parliament, and King Edward of York. Very good; light soiling. The Royal Seal is present. The document was temporarily deposited in the Public Records Office by the Duke of Manchester and stamped in error. Matted with a color image of James I and framed to an overall size of 21¼ x 24¼ in.
