Lot 5001

1891, $2 Coin Note. CGA Gem Uncirculated 65. . Fr-357. . KL-144. The colors on this beautiful Treasury Deuce are second to none, as the bold inks display vivid colors and outstanding contrast to the bright paper. The centering is a touch high, creating a slightly smaller top margin than the other three, but the overall eye appeal is truly extraordinary.

Treasury Notes, because of their dual nature of being payable in either silver or gold coin, caused a lot of confusion (and led to profitable arbitrage possibilities) when they first appeared. After the Treasury's gold was drained almost dry in the early years of the 1890s, the government quickly suspended the production of these. All are scarce in such outstanding condition.
Estimated Value $3,000 - 4,000.

Realized $3,450
