Lot 492

1835 Braided Hair Cent. Type of 1834. Newcomb-13 1/2, Low Rarity-4. . N-13½. Del Bland graded MS-61. Double profile from the forelock to the nose, on the lips and on most of the stars. A point or so better in terms of quality with medium dark chocolate brown and mint red uniformly dispersed on both obverse and reverse. The only blemishes are microscopic nicks right of star ten, on the lower line of the bust, in the field opposite the neck and on the face where a small patch of light color is visible. This is the finest known business strike. This cataloger (Del Bland) considers it more desirable than the Proof 60/MS-61 example which has two long scratches on the lower obverse. Nothing comparable has been auctioned since the AU-55 Halpern coin in March 1988. A wonderful opportunity for the advanced large cent collector.
Estimated Value $6,000 - 9,000.

Realized $5,520
