Exotic African Phallocrypt. Perhaps Central Africa, c. early 20th century. The object with a cylindrical base of woven fiber, caulked with a resinous mud, attaches to a realistically modeled tip, which is carved from a fibrous wood or stalk. Between the two, a woven band of small white cowry shells. The tip pierced for drainage, along with ornamental carving. Intact and well preserved. Length: 6".

Penis sheaths, also known as phallocrypts, were utilized as everyday wear for the indigenous peoples in parts of Africa, and particularly in the mountainous villages of New Guinea.
Estimated Value $175 - 200.
