Susan Lawrence's recent work focuses on the White mountain Apache Tribe in northern Arizona, specifically the Coming of Age Ceremony of the teenage Apache girls. This three-day ceremony which involves prayer, dance, and inner strength is life changing and signifies the transition from to woman. Her relationship with this tribe covers almost eighteen years and her friends there have allowed and trusted her to join them in honoring their daughters on their journey into womanhood. This is one in a series of eight portraits that reflect these experiences.
