Engraving by Cathelin, From A Painting by Frédou. Marie Antoinette. A portrait of the youthful queen, c. 1774, 14 x 10 in. A lovely waist-up portrait, surrounded by wreaths of flowers, and with the French royal coat of arms below. Daughter of the Holy Roman Emperor, Marie married the future King Louis XVI in 1770; she became Queen in 1774 upon Louis' ascenscion to the throne. She died on the guillotine October 16, 1793.
