Hokinson, Helen. New Yorker Magazine Cover. Original pencil and watercolor for a 1945 New Yorker cover, signed by Helen E. Hokinson, the premier New Yorker cartoonist from the magazine's 1925 inception until her death in 1949. 12 x 9 in. on 15 x 12 in. artist's Bristol, mounted to a larger piece with interesting notations and date stamps. A New Yorker copyright stamp appears on the verso. The cover show a typical Hokinson matron presenting her butcher with a bouquet during the severe, war-induced meat shortage. Hokinson's club women in their elegant hats were a New Yorker feature. Matted and framed, this would make a wonderful display piece.
Estimated Value $600 - 800.
